The reviews are in and the 2004 Chesapeake Women Anglers' Casting for Recovery Retreat last week May 12th - 14th at Shrine Mont in Orkney Springs, VA was "A Five Star" event. Some of the words used by the 14 breast cancer survivor participants to describe the retreat were "WONDERFUL", "SUPER", "FABULOUS" and "SUPERB"!!! On Friday, the 14th, at Smith Creek for "River Day", I wish each of you could have seen the priceless smiles on the participants' faces when their newly learned casting skills ended with a fish in the net. It was a great day of fishing in so many ways for everyone involved with the retreat.
In addition to the support of the entire membership of CWA, the success of the retreat can be attributed to several CWA members who played key roles before and/or during the retreat. As CWA/CFR Retreat Coordinator, I would like to take this opportunity to recognize and thank each of them including:
Dotty Smith, Special Events/Fly Fishing Show Coordinator - under the leadership of Dotty, the CWA Club raised over $3,000.00 for CWA/CFR- and thanks to all CWA members who volunteered at the various shows and booths; Linda Crouch, our in-house Arts and Crafts expert who hosted and lead the Gift Bag Rubber Stamping Party- and thanks to all CWA members who came to the Rubber Stamping Party at Linda's on April 14th; Norma Kawecki - Gift Bag Coordinator and Fishing Instructor - and thanks to all CWA members who contributed 14 items to the Participants' Gift Bags; Kiki Galvin - Resource Coordinator and Fishing Instructor; Meg Thomas - Facilities Coordinator and Fishing Instructor; Carole Miller - River Helper Coordinator and Fishing Instructor; Diane Pennessi -Volunteer Staff Coordinator and River Helper; Carol Stevenson - River Helper; Susan Eggert- River Helper; Stella Norman - River Helper; and Liz Ogilvie - River Helper.
On behalf of all the 2004 CWA/CFR Retreat participants, let me say thanks to each of you for all you did collectively and individually as members of CWA - THANK YOU! Know that there are 14 more women out there "Casting for Recovery" and I am sure there CWA Hats are off to each of you!

Arkansas/Missouri CFR Retreat
Organizers and Medical Facilitators Patti Hummert (MO) and Kerri Russell (AR), did a fantastic job at the Arkansas/Missouri retreat. In attendance were pro's Kathy Sarnes Rice,Tiffany Kell, Wanda Taylor, Sister Carol Ann Corley and Wallis Warren (see below). Joining the group were psychosocial counselors; Jane Calhoun and Marcia Mermelstein; Hospitality, Candy Odglen, Mary K. Nolen and Geri Turner.
Many River Helpers joined in as well, this included folks from Trout Unlimited and other fly fishing clubs. Thanks to the Army Corps of Engineers for not running the Dam during the fishing day!
