On the cloudy, cool Saturday of June 13th, volunteers from Casting for Recovery- Alaska  walked one or five miles in support of breast cancer awareness.  More than 5,400 walkers/runners raised $120,000 to support breast cancer projects both nationally and in Alaska.  Janice Schnorr, CFR volunteer,  reported that the team included herself, Viki Wells, Martha Peck, Jo-Ann Marusich, Jolynne Howard, Evie Dunham, Willie Devine, Jo Ann Bantz, Sandra Arnold, and Cindi Crawford.

In addition to team runners/walkers, Katie Hickey organized the port-a-potty decoration  (part of a fleet provided for the attendees). The decoration crew included Jolynne, Martha, and Jan, and Martha reported “The door was covered in purple netting over pink felt, simulating a swirling river.  Atop of the purple netting were hot pink fish with words of inspiration on each, and the whole thing was crowned with a float tube.  The best part, however, was the inside.  Adorned with an entire school of hot pink poster board fish hanging from fishing line, the potty user had to enter through a curtain of them.  Whilst sitting on the seat, the occupant was entertained by the beautifully crafted posters.  There was a hand made net with a fish “caught” cfrak-2009runinside, an alder rod with a pink and purple maribou “fly” and to complete the ensemble a craftily lined urinal reassigned to be the CFR pamphlet holder.”

A special thanks to everyone for supporting the team effort in helping raise awareness of breast cancer and Casting for Recovery!
