The following is a partial list of organizations that have generously assisted Casting for Recovery with the promotion and delivery of our special program for breast cancer survivors:
Fly Fishing Organizations
Numerous fly fishing organizations have generously donated their time,
resources, and financial support to Casting for Recovery. We plan to
highlight a few organizations each month. On behalf of all of us at CFR, we
wish to thank you all!
CLUB OF THE MONTH

Texas
Women’s Fly Fishers
Texas Women Fly Fishers was organized
in 2001 by a small group of determined women with a common love for fly
fishing. From the saltwater flats of the Texas coastline, to the fabled
crystal clear streams of the Texas Hill Country, and north to the trout
fisheries of Oklahoma and Arkansas, our group of 75 women, men, and children
gather six times a year to create opportunities, to encourage, to educate
and to mentor responsible participation in fly fishing. We are an affiliate
club of the Federation of Fly Fishers and we subscribe to the FFF Code of
Ethics.
Since our inception our officers and
volunteers have taken the idea of a recreational club and extended it into a
club dedicated to supporting worthy causes in our state and across the
nation. In January of 2005 our membership wholeheartedly embraced the CFR
program and voted overwhelmingly to sponsor one woman at the first CFR
retreat in Texas. Finally, we had a cause that reached beyond our club and
touched the lives of others. We were so energized! Our members also voted to
sustain the commitment each year by fundraising events conducted at each of
our six outings. We have already raised funds to sponsor a second woman for
the 2006 CFR event.
Our members promote CFR each time they
enter a fly shop, tie flies with friends at events, or visit with guides and
outfitters across the nation. The generosity of our fly fishing colleagues
with donations of equipment for our annual fundraising auction is
overwhelming. Indeed, on a trip to Arkansas in the summer of 2005 several of
our members took a guided trip out of the Mountain River Fly Shop in Cotter,
Arkansas. At the end of a very successful day on the river, we asked for
support for and mentioned that most of the money raised would be donated to
CFR. Owner Gary Hanson promptly walked to the back of his shop and returned
with an 8 weight Temple Fork Outfitters rod. He specifically asked that all
proceeds garnered from the sale of the rod be donated to our CFR cause. We
couldn’t believe his generosity and it fueled our desire to continue our
support for CFR.
